Our charities

We actively support:-

  • Rotary International and the Rotary Club of York Ainsty (RCYA)
  • MiSight (York)
  • The Wilberforce Trust, Club Wilber – supporting local families with visual impairment

Our SpecSort initiative

Support is provided both to and by Rotary who support our SpecSort initiative, whereby unused spectacles and sunglasses are collected, sorted, washed, measured and placed into libraries before being dispatched overseas. This generous support has been provided since 1991!

In 2012 RCYA supplied spectacles to Malawi via Madalitso and to the Rotary Mwanza Project in Tanzania.

Ruth has travelled to Africa (Cameroon, Burkina Faso (3) Sierra Leone (3), Malawi (3), Senegal (2)) both to test eyes and fit spectacles, and also to provide education and training to local refractionists and nurses.

We welcome donations!

We welcome all donations of your old spectacles, with collection points in both of our Practices.

There is also a free book recycle service in both of our Practices. The team have kindly donated some of their favourite books, for our patients to take home and enjoy. Please feel free to pop in should you need a new read, or indeed if you would like to donate a book to our library. #WeTreatYouLikeFamily
